some thoughts tonight
the transience of relationships between people and what make them stick
having been part of certain big groups- sec school classes, jc class, uni clique, overseas trip clique... what is it that determines the existence of a strong group after time?
effort? people personalities? personality compatibility? nature of time spent tog? amount of time spent tog? stages people were in? which one counts as more important and is the determining factor then?
I think... effort plays a major role, which will maintain the initial spark of chemistry. of keeping one another in our lives...but certainly it is true that distance pulls hearts further away, and things will never quite be the same as when physical proximity value-adds instead of discount. Still, that's not the question. It is about how some groups can still blossom into long-term friends, and why some just breaks away after a high moment of fun.
perhaps, yes, the crux is how strong the foundation built is. so we do not just float away n forget... the times spent there and then has to be memorable and strong enough.
friends- who do we keep/choose to keep/can keep?
this is a complex question. how much is by choice (effort) and how much is by chance? (fate/opportunities/circumstances) i don't have much of an answer, but perhaps, it is mostly by choice. it is about choosing who to keep and who to let go. but sometimes, who you choose to keep is hard to keep because you are not part of the keepers on the other side, and it takes 2 hands to clap.
the culture or missing culture we are moving towards? learning more about ourselves thru' others
have we advanced too fast to where and who we are now as a country that complacency consumerism and materialism is on the rise, with neglect on culture depth and values? it does seem that way after hearing from people, or rather, the perception does seem that way. like how i start to see myself from a 3rd persons perspective from the outside as a sgrean. just after material and comfort? lack of depth n culture-seeking? true indeed? what should be then?
of cambodians working hard in the rice fields to make a living, of children riding motorbikes to school for long distances just to learn, or HARDSHIP. what are we without it. less/no
appreciation??? advancing too fast as a country that we forsook heritage culture n the very part of history which brings meaning and appreciation. how well can u say u know a person without first understanding his/her history, and what does that make a country with a neglected one.
point to keep - to truly appreciate how someone has become who he or she is now, u need to appreciate the history that this person has gone thru'.
not how much this person has, but how his person got this much.
about working for things, staying hungry and foolish and not have it all
in the same vein, being granted essentials and comfort make a person lazy and just an empty frivolous decadent vessel.
paying attention to the things around us
constantly inspire our senses with new things, and nothing will become so routine we forget to notice them. like how i see my neighbourhood again with fresh roving eyes after returning from 2 countries different. stay curious, explore, go to places, do not be stuck.
you are more than what you think you are, and only adversity and bring that out
when u think u have reached your limit, think again. like a teabag, u don't know how strong u are until put in hot water. keep seeking new experiences, new challenges, don't be afraid, for they make you stronger so that you can scale new heights :)
these...i learnt from the people i have met and shared lives with this december, and the experiences i have gone thru' and kept.
